The Garden

              There’s a garden in a valley, near a mountain, by a stream
Where sunlit clouds boil over like the faces in a dream
Rosellas fly below the sky and corellas chew the trees
And a Kookaburra chuckles at the early morning breeze
It takes time to grow a garden as a partner with the land
It takes tenderness and patience and a will to understand
For a garden is a family that must learn to grow and share
Some will wander wild and wan and some survive with care
There are stories in the blossoms and the cycles of the earth
There are memories of fallen friends and tales of rebirth
There are recipes of hope (and home) and antidotes for grief
Which are written in each petal and in every fallen leaf
For every dawn a dusk must come and for every rise, a fall
For every night, another sun and for every heart, a call
And time will take its weary toll upon the gifts we give
But the rebirth of the season is the reason that we live
For the answers are within, it’s the questions that take
                time
And the winters can be bitter but the spring times are sublime
So plant your seeds, tend your weeds, and don’t forget
                to dream
In a garden in a valley, near a mountain, by a stream
